ABOUT
Karla Ingleton Darocas B.A. (Hons) is a Canadian-born author, educator, and Spanish Fine Arts historian based in Benitachell, Spain.
First coming to Spain in 1987, her profound connection to the country began when she studied fine arts history at the acclaimed Prado Museum in Madrid. This foundational period culminated in her writing and presenting her university Honours dissertation on the famous surrealist filmmaker Luis Buñuel.
Armed with an Honours degree in Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo, she has spent over 35 years blending her background in journalism, photography, and art history to research and celebrate Spanish heritage.
Her deep expertise is uniquely personal: she has been married to a Valenciano for over 25 years and is fully integrated into the indigenous culture of her adopted homeland.
As a prolific author, she channels this intimate, lived experience into multiple cultural guidebooks and biographies that dive deep into Spain's history, legends, and landmarks.
As an engaging educator, Darocas teaches from her personal studio on the Costa Blanca and hosts interactive online learning events. She has built an extensive catalogue of over 60 specialized lectures, dedicating her career to awakening a deeper public appreciation for Spain's rich artistic legacy.
