Atiya Goldsmith

My name is Atiya Goldsmith and I was born and raised in the South Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. My desire to provide housing to others was a result of my upbringing and my experience of being homeless. As a child, I watched my mother use our home to provide temporary housing for others. Later, my mother converted my childhood home into apartments in addition to purchasing a single-family rental home in order to receive rental income. In fact, the first property that I purchased was one of my mother’s rental properties. Once I outgrew the home, I used the property as my first rental property.

Becoming a landlord has allowed me to build wealth, but most importantly, it has allowed me to provide housing for families that would not ordinarily be an ideal tenant, because of credit and income guidelines similar to what I experienced when I was homeless.

It has been several years since I became a landlord along with my husband, so I wanted to share information about what I learned that could possibly help you decide if you would like to continue to pursue your endeavors of becoming a landlord.
